From my house to the Airport…

Waking up this morning, I expected to feel nervous about my first trip outside the country but rather all I felt was uncertain because I had no idea what to expect. I was travelling to Ohio in the United States of America, to visit my brother. It all felt surreal.

The whole travelling process was foreign to me because this is my first time of ever boarding a plane. I travelled with my mom who is an experienced traveller and my sister who is also as inexperienced as I am.

I left home at 8:00 am for the airport. My flight was scheduled to leave at 12:00 pm. The road to the airport wasn’t as smooth as expected as I was stuck in traffic for a while and coupled with the bad road that leads to Muritala Mohammed Airport.

For a first-time traveller, there isn’t a handbook to help guide you. You’re expected to be familiar with the whole process and just follow what everyone else is doing.

Oyindamola says…

We arrived at the airport at 9:20 am, then we proceeded to check in our luggage. The whole process was rather slow. We had to re-arrange our luggage because they exceeded the standard 23kg. Then we passed the immigration checkpoint. At that point, it started to feel real to me.

For a first-time traveller, there isn’t a handbook to help guide you. You’re expected to be familiar with the whole process and just follow what everyone else is doing. This triggered my anxiety as I felt completely clueless. It was a good thing we had someone who put us through everything we had to do and accompanied us until we got to the boarding room.

I flew with Qatar airlines. There was an announcement that we would board the plane 15 minutes after the scheduled time. We finally boarded the plane at 12.03 pm. Then it became real. I finally got to enter a plane for the first time ever, I was definitely excited at that point. We took off at exactly 12:23 pm.
