Austria’s Interior Minister, Wolfgang Peschorn has announced that Adolph Hitler’s birthplace will now be converted into a police station in a bid to prevent the place from becoming a neo-Nazi shrine after many years of legal contention with the owner’s family, Gerlinde Pommer.

The place usually attracted Nazi sympathizers who came from around the world to organise a rally outside the premises every year on his birthday.

Hitler, who was born on the premises on the 20th of April, 1889 in the northern town of Braunau very close to the German border is the reason the place was taken over by the government in 2016.

The Interior Minister said the following “the house’s future usage by the police should set a clear signal that this building will never be a place to commemorate Nazism,”
