Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, the senator who sponsored the bill to penalise hate speech has come out to disclose that he has been receiving threats since sponsoring the bill.
However, Abdullahi has said he is not a coward and won’t back down from his decision to push for the passage of the bill.
The bill which canvasses for a death penalty of anyone who participates in Hate speech that leads to the death of an individual is currently making the rounds in and out of social media.
Many civil rights organizations have kicked against the bill due to its vagueness and lack of a clear definition of what hate speech constitutes.
In addition, Atiku Abubakar has also expressed his concerns over the passage of the bill which the Lawmaker has claimed is very real and arises from different avenues, especially from ethnic or religious intolerance.
