Rodney Reed, the 51-year-old man who was accused of rape and murder of Stacey Stites and was due to be executed, had his execution postponed while Kim Kardashian was visiting with him.
Rodney Reed who pleaded not guilty throughout the trial and also had new evidence proving his innocence surfaced recently was on death row until the highest court in Texas issued a stay of execution back to the trial court for further consideration.
Many celebrities including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Meek Mill and Gigi Hadid all petitioned for his release with the #FreeRodneyReed. Kim shared her excitement over the news attributing the success of the delay to all those who came out to speak up for him. Read her statement in part below:
“We have heard people all around the globe speak up. And all because of a deep belief that every man or woman accused of a crime – especially one punishable by death – deserves the chance to have all available evidence considered.”
“So grateful for the commitment and passion of everyone who voiced their support, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for their recommendation to issue a 120-day reprieve, and the courts for issuing a stay!”
