The Nigerian Senate has re-introduced a bill seeking the establishment of National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speeches nationwide.

The bill which is being sponsored by Senator Aliyu Sabi from Niger State will seek to enforce hate speech laws across the country, passed first reading during plenary.

The bill is proposing a death by hanging punishment for any person found guilty of any form of hate speech that results in the death of another individual.

The Eight Senate had tried to pass the same bill in 2017 without success.
