A group of armed men have ambushed the police officer who was involved in the arrest of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. El Chapo’s son, Ovidio Guzman Lopez is currently wanted in the United States on charges of drug trafficking.
They reportedly jumped out of a car and fired at the officer’s vehicle parked in front of a strip mall in Culiacan firing at least 150 rounds of bullets before leaving the scene.
The officer’s death who was part of an elite group of state police assigned to the region of Mexico and identified as Eduardo was affirmed in a statement by the force as below
“The Secretary of public security of the state regrets the death of a member of the state police, Eduardo, who lost his life this Wednesday in the capital of Sinaloa”.
The spokesman added they were “in solidarity with the family and friends of the fallen officer”.
Despite the fact that Guzman Lopez was surrounded by officers al with high-grade weapons, they ware unable to secure his capture and eventually the soldiers had to release in a capitulation.
Many people were killed due to the public open fire and 21 were recorded injured.
