Kristine and Michael Barnett have been charged on the felony of child neglect. They are said to have abandoned Natalia Grace Barnett, a Ukraine born dwarf in 2013. The Barnetts adopted Natalia in 2010 in Florida.
They, however, abandoned her in an apartment and left for California with the rest of their children. In the same year, Kristine and Michael got divorced.
In their defence, the Barnetts claim that they were scammed and that Natalie came into their home under false pretences. When she was adopted, they claim to have thought she was six years old.
They were however alarmed when she started displaying traits of an adult. They said that Natalie has on several occasions tried to kill them and their other children. They believe she is an adult sociopath who is masquerading as a child.
Some of the allegations they levied against Natalie include jumping out of moving vehicles, smearing blood on mirrors and walls, throwing her clothes in the garbage to hide the fact that she is menstruating, threatening murder, standing over family members while they are asleep and holding sharp objects, pouring bleach into her adoptive mother’s coffee among others.
Due to these odd behaviours, Natalie has been receiving psychiatric treatments. She was officially placed in a state-run psychiatric unit. Natalie was diagnosed with a psychiatric illness for adults which further cemented the Barnetts’ belief that Natalie is an adult. The Barnetts then had a bone density test done to determine her age. Just before adoption, a bone density test had determined her age to be eight years old.
However, the new test claimed that she was between sixteen and twenty years old. A therapist in January of 2012 said the girl confessed to being eighteen years old.
The Barnetts had her age officially changed to twenty-two years old. The Barnetts then paid a year’s rent for an apartment in Indiana, got Natalie a Social Security Number, gave her food stamps and moved to California without her.
Natalie has since then been taken into custody by a Christian American family. Appearing on Dr Phil’s show to reply to these allegations, Natalie referred to these allegations as being false. She came on the show wither new adoptive mother, Cynthia Mans as she had since been adopted by a Christain American family.
According to Natalie, she is currently sixteen years old. Reporters are said to have found documents from her orphanage dating as far back as 2003. According to the documents, she was a baby in 2003. They were, however, unable to take pictures.
