Rwanda will today unveil four electric cars which will make their debut today in the country. The cars – e-Golfs, a Siemens and Volkswagen partnership pilot project is expected to be launched in the presence of the Prime Minister, Eduoard Ngirente.
The vehicles are expected to join the local market with a charging station located at the Volkwagen facility at the Special Economic Zone. The project was embarked on after the Rwandan Energy Group and Siemens confirmed that the city’s grid is able to support innovation.
The vehicles were not produced or manufactured in Rwanda but in Germany and were imported into the country. The Chief Executive Officer of the Volkswagen operation in the country attests that the vehicle can run up to 230 kilometres in ideal conditions.
