The immediate past governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, on Saturday in Makurdi was declared winner of Nasarawa South Senatorial district by the Court of Appeal.
The judgement was an affirmation of the decision by the Election Petition Tribunal which earlier sat in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.
In the petition brought by a former lawmaker, Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seeking to be declared winner against the former Governor who is of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC was earlier turned down by the tribunal.
The Appeal Court upheld that Al-Makura of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored the lawful votes in the February 23rd, 2019 senatorial election.
The Appeal court was presided over by Justices Jummai Hannatu Sankey and Joseph Eyo Ekanem, who dismissed Senator Adokwe’s appeal.
In the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared that Al-Makura scored 113,156 votes against 104,595 votes of his closest rival, Suleiman Adokwe.
