A representative of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria has come out to clarify that the Islamic Movement is not an organization and was only coined to describe the organizations ‘ideological and conceptual activities’ and as such, there is no hierarchical structure for leadership.

In addition to this they referred that they only have a leader, the detained Shiekh Ibraheem Zakzaky who has been in the custody of security operatives on charges bordering on treason amongst others and as such, communication with the group can only be made via the leadership or appointed members by the leader of the group.

On the matter of having a dialogue with the government, they claim that no one sought a dialogue with them before they were unduly attacked and maimed on several occasions. As a result, if the government wishes to open the lines of communication, they are more than willing to discuss. Read the statement on this signed by Suhailah Ibraheem Zakzaky in part

And finally, we are not the ones attacking the government. But on the contrary, we are subject to tyranny, oppression and aggression. We are only practising our religion as we understand it. So if the aggressor decides to stop the aggression and instead of dialogue with us, then we are ready to do so, under the directives of our esteemed Leader, Shaikh Zakzaky H.
