Amnesty International calls against forced Incarceration of Journalists and Free Press

Amnesty International has called on the Nigerian Government to immediately end violations and abuses on the rights to freedom of expression on members of the Press.

The International Human rights Watchdog while releasing its report titled “Endangered Voices” in Abuja, says that in 2019 alone, about 19 Journalists and bloggers have been arrested and incarcerated for only doing their Job and expressing dissenting opinions with government, while several media organizations have been attacked by security operatives.

Amnesty International is calling on the Federal government to create an atmosphere where pressmen can do their job freely without any fear of reprisals, as stipulated in the Nigerian constitution and several international conventions on the right to free movement and freedom of expression.
