According to the United States Census Bureau data, Immigrants from Africa increased by 50% between 2010 and 2018 which is about twice the amount of migrants from Asia, South America and the Carribean.
Nigeria currently has the highest count in terms of population of African migrants while Cameroon is highest when it comes to growth, there are more Cameroonian births spurring the rate of their growth by 80000 between the 8 year period.
A decent percentage of those migrants come from Africans pursuing their education in the States, another way these migrants have gained access is through the US Diversity Lottery Program a.k.a Green Card program.
Trump’s attempt to reduce the number of immigrants coming into the country by enforcing that the Green Card should only be awarded to those with active passports thus making it difficult for lower bracket earners to make it.
The Executive Director of the nonprofit, African Communities Together, Amaha Kassa mentioned that despite President Trump’s attempts to deter immigrants from Africa, it is poised to be temporal as many Americans do not agree with his policies.
