Harvard University has decided to honour Queen Latifah with the WEB Du Bois Medal and six others on October 22 for their contributions to black history and culture.
The other recipients include Elizabeth Alexander, Lonnie Bunch III, Rita Dove, Sheila Johnson, Kerry James and Robert Smith, all who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields.
The Du Bois award, coined after a civil rights activist, scholar and writer was the first black student to earn a doctorate degree from Harvard in 1895.
