The United Kingdom has recently reversed a rule which prevented foreigners from remaining the United Kingdom four months after a student visa expires.
Currently, with 450,000 international students studying in the UK, an estimated 6,300 individuals were granted skilled work visas in 2018 alone, 450 extra were granted “high-value migrant” visas leaving the bulk of students little option than to return home.
According to Diane Abbott, retaining graduates will contribute to the British Economy, fuel research and attract the brightest and best minds globally.
Boris Johnson, the current British Prime Minister has welcomed the development and opined that it would contribute immensely to the ongoing £200 genetics project at the UK Biobank. In his words, he had the following to say:
“That’s why we’re unveiling a new route for international students to unlock their potential and start their careers in the UK.”
The condition attached to the new rule is that the students must study at institutions with a clean track of upholding immigration checks.
