A teenage boy has reportedly gone blind and partially deaf for eating only a diet of crisps and chips for many years.

The 17-year old’s diet consisted only of chips, white bread, processed meat and crisps because according to him, he is a ‘fussy eater’.

At 14, he first had his doctor’s appointment complaining of tiredness despite having a normal body mass index (BMI) and test then revealed low levels of B!” and macrocytic anaemia to which he was given B12 injections and dietary advice.

He, however, returned years later with a worse-off condition and this time on further investigation, it was revealed that in addition to the vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiencies, he was diagnosed with a reduced bone mineral density, low levels of copper and selenium and high levels of zinc.

The report concluded that there are high health risks associated with junk food consumption which can damage the nervous system permanently including the eye.
