South-African-Embassy in nigeria shuts down

Two days after angry Nigerians began disrupting and looting South African based businesses within Nigeria, the South African Embassy in Lagos has shut down due to alleged threats of attacks by Nigerians.

Lunga Ngqengelele, the spokesperson of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation said the Embassy was shut down over safety concerns of their employees. Read his statement below

“Out of safety and concern for the employees of the embassy, a decision was taken that we temporarily shut down while we’re assessing the situation,” he said.

Since the last news of Nigerian businesses in South Africa suffering loots and physical violence, there has been an uprising of Nigerians both home and in South Africa to repay violence with violence.

The Nigerian government has, however, appealed to Nigerians to desist from attacks as other Nigerians will suffer the effects of such atrocities.
