The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has commenced the registration of immigrants in the country to check criminal activities.
Ifeoma Dibia, the Comptroller of NIS in Ekiti State, disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti yesterday during a courtesy visit to Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe.
Dibia said the registration would enable the Federal Government know the number of non-Nigerians living in the country and assist the government in its planning.
She said the programme, which would last for six months, would be free of charge and open to legal and illegal migrants.
The comptroller explained that children of migrants living in the country who are below 18 years of age would register under their parents.
