Burundi records first two cases of coronavirus

The Tanzanian Government have stated that 200,000 Burundian Refugees have up until October 1 to return to Burundi or face forceful eviction from the Country.

According to Kangi Lugola, there is now peace in Burundi so they will be sent back whether they are willing or not. However, Dana Hughes disclosed that on a monthly basis 100 new Burundians flee from home into Tanzania.

Burundians fled their home country in 2015 due to the political upheaval during the failed coup and President Pierre Nkurunziza’s election for his third term in office which provided for him to remain as President till 2034.

Refugees have on the other hand expressed concerns of safety upon return, citing killings, abduction and also expressed disappointment in the international community to stop the attacks.

The UNCHR has also called upon the two countries to respect international conventions and rights of refugees.
