On August 26, 2019, the 36th MTV Video Music Awards held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for the first time and it was hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco.
Taylor Swift won video of the year and Ariana Grande won artist of the year, while rapper Cardi B won best hip-hop video. Lil Nas X won the award for song of the year award for “Old Town Road,” his country rap collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus.
Swift and Grande had 10 nominations each. Rapper Cardi B presented the Vanguard Award for career achievement to Missy Elliott, calling her a champion for women who want to be doing their own thing
