While taking the census of Citizens yesterday and today, the Kenyan government have now made it official for intersex people to be recognized and counted during the process.
Intersex individuals are people who have either both reproductive organs or physical characteristics that disqualify them from either of the existing gender groups.
The President, Uhuru Kenyatta has taken the opportunity to encourage all citizens to be a part of the process to ensure better planning to cater to the needs of citizens.
“Once again I reiterate that this is an exercise that’s is geared towards helping us plan for your future. It is an exercise that is geared towards better utilization of your taxes to ensure that they get to the people. You cannot plan if you do not have the right statistics,” he added.
