Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has said he will increase the membership of the State Executive Council with more appointments despite having about six months to the end of his tenure.
Governor Dickson, who spoke during the swearing-in of five new commissioners at Government House, Yenagoa, said he would appoint more persons into the SEC because there were many people he had worked with since assuming office in 2012 who deserved recognition.
The commissioners included the immediate past leader of the state House of Assembly, Peter Akpe; a former lawmaker, Daniel Igali; Alex Dumbo, Ebitei Tonyon and Churson Obosi. However, they were not assigned portfolios.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media Relations, Fidelis Soriwei, Governor Dickson said the appointments were part of efforts to reposition the government for greater service delivery.
The governor, who charged the new commissioners to exhibit loyalty and dedication, stated that he had confidence in their capacity to perform to expectations.
He said, “I have had the honour and privilege in the last seven years or so to invite worthy and deserving sons and daughters to serve in various capacities.”
“And by so doing, in my own way, I am also contributing to the development of manpower to give opportunities to people to expand their frontiers of experience and to have a first-hand feel what it means to serve our people, which can be an interesting and tasking experience. More will be invited.”
