Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has settled a debt owed by the National Open University of Nigeria, Lafia study
The debt is the cost of Certificate of Occupancy which had been pending against the university. The governor settled the debt with his outstanding June and July salaries.
He said the payment was in fulfillment of his personal resolve and that of the state government to provide quality education.
The governor had promised to pay off the NOUN CofO bill last week when the management of the institution’s Lafia study centre visited him.
Reacting to a request by the institution’s management for a waiver on land acquisition charges, the governor had said he would not talk of revenue generation and at the same time grant waivers on land charges.
“Luckily for you, I have not been paid my June salary yet, so they are paying me both June and July salaries at the same time; therefore, I will pay the bills for you out of my salaries of the months of June and July.
“That will be part of my own personal contribution to the development of education. As I always say, I will continue to support education in every way that I could,” the governor had promised.
