Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says his administration will follow due process in implementing the report of the committee set up to investigate and audit the financial transactions of all the twenty-three local government councils in the state.
The Governor, who on Monday, received the report of the committee headed by his Deputy, Ipalibo Harry Banigo, said he would abide by the Supreme Court judgment stopping governors from dissolving elected local government councils, but noted that the report has exposed a scandalous rot in the system.
Governor Wike had on may 7, 2019, constituted a seven-member committee headed by his Banigo to investigate and audit the financial transactions of all the 23 local government councils in the state from May 2018 to May 2019.
The Rivers Governor, who had given the committee 8 terms of reference to prosecute the assignment, said his decision to institute the probe was informed by the need to address the growing rot in the local government system fraught with cases of diversion and misappropriation of funds that were never accounted for.
The Governor said his administration was also disturbed by the fact that majority of the council chairmen still have nothing to show after being in office for over a year.

Saddened by what he said is the rot exposed by the report, Governor Wike while promising to abide by the due process of the law, however warned that all the civil servants indicted will not be spared.
Thanking the committee for doing a good job, the Rivers State Governor said his administration would immediately commence the full implementation of all the recommendations made in the report.
