The Somalian government has reported the demise of Mayor Abdirahman Oman Osman of injuries sustained from an attack in his office by the Al Shabab terrorist group.
The Mayor was airlifted to Qatar alongside other injured colleagues for treatment after the attack struck at July 24 according to the lawmaker, Dahir Amin Jesow.
The Al-Qaeda related group claimed responsibility for the bombing and according to reports from government officials, the suicide bomber was a woman who was targeting a certain James Swan, the recently appointed UN envoy to Somalia who had fortunately left the office before the attack ensued.
Security agents are yet to identify how the bomber gained access into the building despite the multiple security standpoints which are required to gain entry.
The Mayor before his death, served as a councillor for the opposition Labour Party, he later went on to serve as the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, he later worked as as a Minister of Information twice before his appointment as mayor in 2018.
Mr Osman was described as a kind and gentle man before news of his death.
