Saudi Arabia Lifts Travel Restriction Ban on Women

The government of Saudi Arabia has announced that female citizens will now be allowed to travel without permissions from their male counterparts.

The new order will allow for women over 21 years to be granted passports and leave the country without permission.

The new order is a welcome development as many scenarios of Saudi women have fled the shores of the Country or refused to return and according to the U.S ambassador, the new regulations are history in the making.

“These new regulations are history in the making. They call for the equal engagement of women and men in our society,” she said. “These developments have been a long time coming.”

Prior to now, Women were not allowed to travel outside the shores of the country without approval from a male guardian which regards women as minors.

The decree was announced earlier today by Reema Bandar Al-Saud, Saudi Arabia’s first female ambassador to the United States in a social media post.

Many women from the region have taken to social media to express their satisfaction. Saudi Arabia, a very conservative society has in recent times been opening up to the modern world, not too far back, women were recently allowed to drive.
