Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Auxilia Mnangagwa has at an inaugural Health Men’s Conference committed to lobbying for men to have paternity leave on the birth of their offsprings to enable then bond and also assist their wives.
An advisory board committee member took the opportunity to disclose that male participation in health and family issues were relatively low because of some existing policies affecting only men.
Lady Mnangagwa explained that indeed women do need their husbands during these periods as many of the tasks they wish to do are too strenuous for women right after childbirth.
In addition, she also challenged men saying that she hopes men will not use the opportunity to disappear without adding value once the bill is passed as they ought to be ready to take the responsibility that comes with the holiday.
