Over 100 Million User Data compromised by Capital One

The names and contact information of over 100 million people registered with Capital One in the United States and 6 million people in Canada have been compromised and published on Github between March and July 17 this year.

The Culprit identified as a female 33-year-old Paige Thompson made her initial appearance in court yesterday to answer for the charges filed against the posted information of her exploit on Github which another user saw and disclosed to the Corporation.

She allegedly gained access via a misconfigured web application firewall rule.

The incident which the company identified on July 19 is estimated to cost Capitol Hill an estimated $150 million this year alone.

Although people’s credit information wasn’t compromised, other information such as the social security number and 80,000 linked bank accounts numbers were compromised.
