The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security agencies to be neutral ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the state.
At an election stakeholders submit in Yenagoa, tagged ” Bayelsa Governorship Election 2019; Towards a Peaceful and Violence-Free Polls”, Governor Dickson, who spoke through his Deputy, charged the electoral body to play by the rules in ensuring the exercise is devoid of any form of rancor and suspicions which he alleged are the bedrock of violence at elections.
It’s about four months to the much anticipated governorship election in Bayelsa State, and major political actors are warming up for a successful outing come November 16.
The meeting which brought together key political players in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, was designed to chat the way forward for a peaceful, credible, and violence-free polls.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmmud Yakubu, who spoke through the National Commissioner in charge of Rivers, Edo, and Bayelsa States, Mary Agbamuchee, assured that with the recent review of the last general elections, the Commission will deliver a credible exercise, assuring of adequate training for personnel of the Commission to avoid lapses.
The INEC and the Bayelsa State Government also want all aspirants and their supporters to play by the laid down rules, pledging to ensure voters and the ballots are adequately protected during the election in the state.
