Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo has been absolved of the criminal charges pressed against him concerning a rape case involving Kathyrn Mayorga who claimed the celebrity raped her at a hotel in Las Vegas as far back as 2009 pending further developments.
The Clark County district after due review of the case disclosed that due to insufficient evidence, no charges will be filed against the footballer.
Based upon a review of the information presented at this time, the allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore, no charges will be forthcoming,” Steve Wolfson said in a statement.
According to Mayorga, she claimed she didn’t come forward earlier as she was paid $375,000 as hush money. His lawyer, Peter Christiansen, however, claims that indeed both were sexually intimate but the gesture was mutual and the lady brought forth her case during the #MeToo season.
The 34-year-old who is one of the most famous athletes in the world denied Mayorga’s claims in October 2018. Read his statement below
“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me,” he said in October 2018. “Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense. My clear conscious [sic] will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.”
