In response to an Advocacy Summit of 30 August 2018 where President Buhari promised to “improve the representation of women in our politics” several women advocacy groups have in a signed Memo urged President Buhari to make good on his words by offering 35% of women appointments across all sectors as the current representation of women is at a palpable 4%.

Please find below the list of women and percentage representation across the Senate and House of Representatives

Seven female Senators were inaugurated in 2019 (9TH Senate)

Uche Ekwunife (PDP, Anambra)

Betty Apiafi (PDP, Rivers)

Eyakenyi Akon (PDP, Akwa Ibom)

Aishatu Dahiru (APC, Adamawa)

Eight women were inaugurated in June 2015 (8th Senate)

Not Returning (18 members: 3 APC & 8 PDP)

Ukeje, Atai, Azodo, Omoni, Bashir, Mrakpor, Igbenedion, Omidiran, Ibiba, Mato and Ngwu

 In conclusion, Seven female senators were inaugurated in 2019 (9TH Senate) totalling 6%

Eight women were inaugurated in June 2015 (8th Senate) representing 7%

Currently Serving female Reps (2015) total 6.1% of which 1.4% were Re-elected
