The Senate has summoned Nigeria ambassador to South Africa over the alleged recent murder of the Deputy Director-General of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Elizabeth Ndubusi-Chukwu, in the country.
The summon was made during plenary on Wednesday after Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, raised the point of order.
The upper chamber also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue travel alerts to Nigerians about South Africa.
It also directed the ministry to carry out comprehensiveinvestigation into the death of the woman.
Mrs Ndubusi-Chukwu was in South Africa to attend the conference of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO). She was found dead on June 13 in her room at Emperor’s Palace Casino, Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg.
Her death has sparked controversy on social media after a report dated June 27, 2019 and signed by the Director-General of the Department of Health, Republic of South Africa, stated that she died of “unnatural causes consistent with strangulation”.
