More help arrives for Cyclone Idai Victims in Zimbabwe

Close to $1,700 families who were affected by Cyclone Idai earlier in the year are poised to benefit from a new donation of $600,000 donated by the United States Government.

The natural disaster took the lives of close to 1,000 people and the US government has now made the donation to assist local farmers in the Chimanimani region to rebuild their lives. Also the USAid will be partnering with LEAD Trust to help the recovery process over the next one year.

It is expected that the programme will also help farmers plant and grow high value crops withthe 138,000 kg of locally sourced grains and 305,000 kg of fertiliser as well.

Despite the fact that the relationship with the United States and Zimbabwe has been lukewarm at best due to the sanctions which were recently extended this year by US President, Donald Trump, the country has decided to extend a hand of support according to US ambassador Brian Nichols.
