bob collymore dies of cancer

Today is a very sad day for friends and family of Bob Collymore the Chief Executive Officer of Safaricom, the largest and most profitable mobile network operator in East Africa as Bob Collymore passed on earlier today.

He reportedly battled for two years with cancer before eventually giving in. Collymore was a Guyana born British Businessman who literally transformed Safaricom over a period of 10 years and increased its profits by an estimated 380% making it a multibillion-dollar company.

Many tributes have poured in from all over the world even from President Uhuru Kenyatta who in his words said Collymore’s life will remain a legacy not just to Kenyans but to the world.

Safaricom’s products allowed for millions of Kenyans to pay for almost anything with m-Pesa, one of its flagship projects which is currently used by 20 million people. Collymore was also attributed to promoting gender equality in the telco with close to 50% of its workforce as women.
