Thousands gathered outside of the City Hall yesterday to celebrate the new Mayor of Istanbul in Turkey, Ekrem Imamoglu, all chanting “Long Live Republic, Long Live Democracy“!
Ekrem officially took office yesterday overshadowing President Tayyip Erdogan in a surprise re-run of a mayoral election.
Imamoglu from the main opposition Republican People’s Party won the renewed votes by over 800,000 and received his mandate at the Istanbul Provincial Election Board for the second time in 3 months after his initial victory was annulled.
