The Africa Development Bank has approved and committed to the sum of $24.7 million to finance the South Sudan Strategic Water Supply & Sanitation Project.
Juba has been plagued for many years with under-investment due to armed conflict, with many displaced over the years and the rapid urbanization which occurred in the region did little to help the absence of well-treated water for the residents.
The project is expected to support the rehabilitation of 50km of the Juba distribution network which includes metering and public water collection outlets. The scope of the project covers the feasibility and engineering design for two other towns within the jurisdiction.
The implementation of the project should commence during 2019/2020 as the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the South Sudan Urban Water Corporation which serves as the executing and implementing agencies.
Once completed, the project has been projected to benefit 300,000 people in Juba town and the surrounding Jubek State.
