USA makes World Cup history in Thailand hammering

The women’s national team of the United States of America opened their Women’s World Cup title defence with an overwhelming 13 nil bashing of Thailand.

The Americans were in dominant form from start to finish as they outplayed and outclassed their Thai opponents with great intensity and overwhelming goalscoring ability.

American striker, Alex Morgan scored five of the goals and is the second player, after countrywoman, Michelle Akers, to score five goals in a match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The margin of victory is a record in World Cup history both for men and women.

The win surpasses the United States’ previous biggest win in the tournament, a 7 nil bashing of Chinese Taipei in 1991 and beats that of Germay’s 11 nil humiliation of Argentina in 2007.

The defending champions next play Chile on Sunday while Thailand will square up against Sweden.
