In a bid to avoid the suspension of matches due to darkness, organizers of the French Open have revealed that lights will be installed on the four major courts for next year’s French Open and on all courts by 2021.
The four courts that will have artificial lighting for the 2020 championship are Philippe Chatrier, Suzanne Lenglen, Simonne Mathieu and Court 4.
Organizers have also disclosed that for next year’s championship, a retractable roof will be functioning over the 15,000-seat Chatrier Stadium which serves as the center court for big matches including semifinals and finals.
Bernard Giudicelli, the president of the French Tennis Federation has revealed that matches for night sessions will not take place until 2021, with three matches scheduled for the day session and one for the night.
