The former Director of Botswana’s arm Okavango Research Institute, Prof. Joseph Mbaiwa mentioned in the Botswana Guides Association (BOGA) annual general meeting. According to him, Botswana is advocating for sustainable hunting controlled and selective to certain male species and lifting the ban would help the country in the long run.

The ban which was initially introduced in 2014 was recently lifted after multiple consultations with stakeholders and members of the public who believed the ban was a major cause for human-wildlife conflict.
