In the last few months, the United States has come down hard on abortion with as many as 11 states restricting the stage at which abortions can be carried out if at all, refer to the heartbeat bill

This has created a lot of controversies as many other states have moved to protect abortion rights, states such as New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Illinois, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Maine, Nevada and Hawaii are towing this route.

The big question is why all of a sudden?

How it all started…

It can all be traced back to the September 29 congressional hearing on stopping the funding of Planned Parenthood, an organization which provides gynecologic services including abortions and also the campaign factor surrounding it with many vying for political offices using it to gain public support.

Most of the cases are being challenged in the Supreme Court to which if the 1973 verdict is overturned will allow for states to ban/restrict abortions. Many are advocating for the legality of abortions stating that abortion-related deaths fell astronomically from 40 million live births to eight

More on the 1973 Verdict!

The Supreme Court’s decision on a landmark case Roe vs Wade stated that American Women have constitutional rights to seek abortions, which makes it legal in all states, however, the right to abortion is not absolute meaning that states can restrict or ban abortions if the foetus can survive outside the mother’s body

What is to Come?

Well, in Georgia, the 3 biggest entertainment companies have threatened to pull out if the new abortion law takes effect which is bad news as Georgia is largely known as an entertainment hub as many who work for them will not want to work there once the law takes effect, according to Bob Iger.

He is not alone, Netflix’s CEO also believes women have rights to protect and is willing to fight with ACLU to protect those rights and will not think twice about leaving the state should the laws come into effect.
