Somalia arrests, deports ex-head of Ethiopia torture home, Jail Ogaden

Over the Weekend, Authorities in Somalia arrested and deported a former commander of Ethiopia’s Jail Ogaden.

Reports gathered show that Ismail Ibrahim who goes by the alias Hassan Dhere was apprehended in the central Somalia town of Goldogob and was leter turned over to the Ethiopian authorities in Jigjiga.

Hassan had been on the run since August 2018 after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed deployed Federal forces to depose long serving Somali regional state president Abdi illey.

Jail Ogaden is a notorious facility where according to human rights watch investigations, thousands of prisoners were tortured and abused through rape, sleep deprivation and physical assault.

Ethiopia closed down the facility last year, with promises made to transform it into a museum.
