Caroline Wozniacki suffers shock first round loss at French Open

Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki suffered a shock loss in the first round of the ongoing French Open, going down 6-0, 3-6, 3-6 to Veronika Kudermetova.

The 2018 Australian Open breezed through the first set, dishing out a bagel to her 68th ranked opponent, before capitulating in a shocking manner over the next two sets.

The 22-year old Russian debutant broke Wozniacki thrice in the second set as she completed an impressive comeback with a 6-3, 6-3 wins of the last two sets.

Wozniacki, who has been battling with rheumatoid arthritis since last year, withdrew in Madrid and Rome with a back and a calf injury respectively, having merely four wins on clay this season.

The Dane joins former Grand Slam champions Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, and Svetlana Kuznetsova to suffer an early exit.
