Nadal, Federer, Djokovic get first taste of French Open clay

The current top three men’s tennis singles players, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic practiced on the red clay of the Roland Garros stadium in Paris on Thursday (May 23) to prepare for the upcoming 2019 French Open, one of the four annual Grand Slam tournaments.

Federer and Djokovic have each won once, in 2009 and 2016 respectively, whilst Nadal has won a record of eleven and is the current defending champion.

Djokovic’s win made him the third man in history to hold all four Grand Slam titles at the same time, and the first to do so in the 21st century.

A win in this year’s tournament would allow him to repeat this and become the third man in history to win all four Grand Slams twice, a feat which Federer would also accomplish with a victory.

The 123rd edition of the French Open is due to begin on May 26, and the men’s winner will be crowned on June 9.
