Kidnapping now at the forefront of Nigeria’s Security Issues!

Growing stealthily but gradually taking the crime scene away from banditry is the issue of Kidnapping. Kidnapping is fast becoming one of the most heinous crimes taking over the Nigerian scene.

The level of insecurity is at an all-time high as many leave home and fail to return without proof or trace as to their whereabouts. Many relations have taken to social media to help search for their missing relatives all without much success.

Released kidnapped victims have attested to paying huge sums of money in ransom just to regain their freedom and those who have no worthy relatives are killed in captivity.

The most recent known sensation involves a 26 year old girl Adediwura Belo whose family has been actively searching for her via online news and social media platforms.

It has been reported that an estimated ₦1 billion has been paid to kidnappers within the last few months and more so Nigeria has been ranked as one of the top countries with the highest cases of kidnapping for ransom cases globally.

More fearful is the fact that even though these criminals are present within the Nigerian territory, attempts to find them are unsuccessful and as such years could go by before victims can be reunited with their loved ones. Leah Sharibu is a perfect example of this.
