Venezuela's Guaido runs risks of arrest

Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaido’s designated ambassador to Spain condemned the arrest of opposition-controlled National Assembly vice president Edgar Zambrano on Wednesday and said Guaido also ran the risk of being arrested by the government of Nicolas Maduro

The opposition leader on Wednesday said that intelligence agents had detained his deputy, the first arrest of a lawmaker since he tried to spark a military uprising last week to bring down Maduro’s government.

On Tuesday, Venezuela’s pro-Maduro Constituent Assembly ruled to strip Zambrano, and six other lawmakers, of their parliamentary immunity to allow their future prosecution.

When asked by journalists why Guaido hadn’t been arrested yet, the opposition designated ambassador to Austria, William Davila said that Guaido’s arrest could spark an international response
