Juan Guaido, the Venezuelan Opposition leader has described the arrest of Vice President Edgar Zambrano as “a dismantling of the rule of law” Zambrano was arrested and detained by the Venezuelan intelligence in Caracas.
Venezuela’s supreme Court had in a different move detained three lawmakers for supporting Juan Guaido, Freddy Superlano, Sergio Vergara and Juan Andres Mejia. They have been accused of high treason and conspiracy.
The Constituent Assembly had earlier said that the immunity of lawmakers who backed the uprising would be rescinded. It appears the Socialist Party is looking to isolate Guaido by weaning him off key allies within the congress.
Juan Guaido had been recognized by 50 countries as the Interim President of Venezuela, receiving backing from the United States, European Nations and many others. Russia, however, remains allies with the current administration.
