Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo has sued Punch Newspaper and columnist Sonala Olumhense over defamation of his character.
A suit was filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja over a publication the newspaper released on January 27, 2019.
According to Obasanjo, the article was “false, malicious, unjustified, injurious, scornful, distasteful, unsavoury,” and exposed him to “public odium, ridicule and disdain.”
The past President complains that Olumhense alleges he was heavily implicated in the Haliburton scandal and also that he accepted massive bribes amongst other claims.
Obasanjo will be represented by his lawyer Kanu Agabi and to represent Olumhense is Femi Falana, the Human Rights Lawyer and Activist.
Obasanjo has also requested a perpetual injunction to refrain further publication of the document.
