Seven things you need to know about the new UNGA president, Prof. Tijjani Bande

Professor Tijjani Bande was on Tuesday, named the new president of the United Nations General Assembly, (UNGA).

Here’s a brief history of the new UNGA president.

Tijjani Muhammed Bande was born on December 7, 1957 at Zagga – present day Kebbi state.

He holds a master’s degree in political science from the Boston University, 1981. He continued his studies, earning a PhD in Political science from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1987.

Between January 2000 to February 2004, Professor Bande held the position of the Director-General of the Centre African de Formation et de Recherche Administrative pour le Development (CAFRAD) in Tangier, Morocco.

He then became the vice chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto for the next 5 years.

Prof. Bande also served as the Director-General of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau state from 2010 to 2016.

Up until his appointment as President of the United Nations General Assembly, Prf. Bande served as the permanent representative of Nigeria to the UN.
