1 million species risk extinction

According to the Head of a Scientific Panel on the loss of Biodiversity, as many as 1 million species risk extinction due to the impact of climate change on our environment.

A report compiled by 145 expert authors from over 50 countries have predicted that to save the ecosystem, the human race will have to embrace a ‘post-growth’ form of economics to avert the impending doom from the effect of climate change.

Industrial farming and fishing have been identified as major proponents to reduce carbon emissions, oil and gas from fossil fuels.

The species to become extinct if drastic measures are not taken include up to 40% of the amphibian species, 33% of reef-forming corals and one-third of all amrine mammals. Insects were also predicted to be at a 10% risk of extinction.
