The Nigerian Immigration Service on Monday has began issuing the 10-year validity Passports as disclosed earlier in January, this year.
This was revealed at the NIS headquarters in Abuja by the Comptroller-General of the Service. The President had earlier launched the new e-passport.
The 64-page 10-year standard passport costs ₦70,000 while the 32-page five-year standard passport costs ₦25,000. The 64-page five-year standard passport goes for ₦35,000 while the 32-page five-year official passport costs ₦15,000.
The Comp. General Muhammad Babandede listed out the advantages of the new passport including a self-tracking application, express centres for urgent applications and compliance with the latest International Civil Aviation Organisation standard and also integrated with NIN.
The Comp. General has however warned that there is no need for Nigerians to rush to the Embassies for the new document as the new passport will run concurrently with the former one in circulation. Also, that payment should be made either online or directly to banks located within the Passport Offices only.
