The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has urged the Federal Government to provide another tranche of bailout funds to states to enable them clear arrears of workers pensioners.

This appeal was made by the National President of the NLC represented by a National Executive member of the union, Comrade Maureen Onyia-Ekwuezie at the 6th quadrennial conference in Ekiti State.

Also, the idea of funding of the 2019 budget with value-added tax was rejected by the union.

The newly elected NLC Chairman in Ekiti State, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde Joshua, appreciated the opportunity to serve the labour union, stating that the minimum wage of 30,000 Naira is non-negotiable.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, represented by the Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye, reiterated the commitment of the government to creating a work-friendly environment for labour to thrive

The last administration in the state owed workers six months’ salary arrears which are yet to be cleared by the new government, even though salaries have been paid regularly from October when Fayemi’s administration began
